Retro Jump : 1983 for iPhone and iPad

Hyperion Games is thrilled to announce our latest (oldest!) action game:

RETRO JUMP : 1983

for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

iTunes Connect Status:
Available Now!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Games back in 1983 used to look this way. Now three decades on and with the platform game concept evolved, this retrospective looks at how games used to be, by mixing a modern game play style with an old audio visual style.
Objective:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keep jumping on platforms, as high as you can, tilt your device to guide the player.
But watch out for the video nasty hazards, toxic weed, strange guardians, falling stalactites.

Styling:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1983 on a home computer called a ZX Spectrum 48k, which you connect to your television and cassette tape player. Yes its true, none of this 64GigaByte flash storage, games loaded from tape, taking several minutes, and screeched!. With this in mind have recreated a noisy loading sequence.
All of the graphics have been crafted to look blocky – low res, and using a limited colour palette (of the era).
The impact of Manic Miner on the British Computer Game Industry:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the summer 1983, Matthew Smith (age 17) created a breakthrough game for the era called Manic Miner. This was an inflection point in the British computer game industry. One person, (in his bedroom) revolutionised the quality of games adding an in game sound track and iconic graphics, it stood apart from games at that time.

I have used a similar visual style, and sounds in this retrospective, and hope you enjoy it.

Ironically I have used Garage Band on the iPad to create the soundtrack; it is difficult to make ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ sound this ‘retro-bad’ on such a great Application.

If I could contact Matthew, we could discuss using the actual graphics and sound – that would be cool.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matthew and Manic Miner inspired me at the age of 12 to start leaning to program Z80 based home computers such as ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX, Tatung Einstein, and 4 years later I released my first titles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Enjoy this game for what it is – Nostalgia in Retrospect !

Same Bubbles – Episode 5

Category : Featured

Update 1.5 of Same Bubbles is in the App Store Now. This version sees new “Per Episode ” leader boards, and overall “star” leader board, and importantly the long overdue Episode 5.

With Episode 5, you play on a Hexagonal grid (like in Episode 4) – but in four zones (like in Episode 3). This requires more thought to structure your large groupings.

Another feature we added is “Colour Twirls“. Like Bombs which enable you to resolve tricky areas by eliminating coloured bubbles which cause you problems; Colour Twirls allow you to re-colour adjacent bubbles to hopefully provide new matching opportunities.

Category : Featured

Hyperion Games is thrilled to announce our latest action game: Fairy Hills™ HD. for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Can you save Norgar Forest, and help the Fairies?

The Fairies of hilly Norgar Forest need a Hero to save them from an evil sorcerer’s spell which has ruined their home.

Can you be that hero ?

Story:

All was well in the tranquil fairy forest of Norgar, until one sad day when an evil sorcerer cast a spell on the forest destroying the fairies’ homes, and bringing great sadness. The magic was too powerful for the fairies to overcome, and needs Elf magic.

You play as a gallant Elf, whos aim is to help the fairies rid their homes of the evil sorcerer’s dark magic, you will have to travel the forest of Norgar and collect bags of magic energy, then use these with Elf magic to fix the fairy houses.

Your transport is a glossy leaf, which glides over the dewey moss of Norgar forest. When sliding down the hills, touch the screen to be heavy and go faster. But not when sliding up hill — that will only make you will go slower.

When you gain enough speed, you become airborne, from there you can cast your elven magic and repair the homes, and eventually overcome the sorcerer’s dark magic.

Sounds easy ? — Or is it.

Christmas Sledging Game

Category : Featured

Leebo the fish loves sledging, over wintery hills, dashing through the crisp snow. But when Santa needs help is Leebo up to the job ?

Leebo is out late on Christmas Eve (past his bed time), and sees Santa. Santa’s sleigh skids on an ice patch and drops some presents. Santa is in a great hurry as you can imagine, and asks Leebo if he can help, otherwise some houses will go without presents this Christmas.

Leebo (you) and his sledge can go very fast, using hills as ramps the sledge can get airborne. Collect the presents Santa has dropped, and deliver them to the houses whilst airborne.

Simple really or is it ?

Santa is on hand to train you.
